Built to impress Baron Oppenheimer's new Italian wife, Villa Cora has a scandalous history: a suspected affair, an attempted arson, then a rescue by Empress Eugenie who restored it and planted the rose gardens. It became a hotel in the 1960s and reached the pinnacle of luxury after a 3-year restoration in 2010. The ballroom is now a sitting area filled with trompe l'oeil frescos, ornate stucco work, parquet floors and lavish chandeliers.

The location, above the city center and the perfect escape from the heat, crowds and hustle of Florence, only a 20-minute walk or short shuttle into town.

The Imperial Suite on the Noble Floor has huge windows overlooking the gardens and the city, filled with precious antiques, named after Emperor Akihito of Japan who stayed here in 1982.

Boboli Gardens, Forte di Belvedere, Palazzo Pitti, Museo di Storia Naturale, Porta Romana.

Private gardens, rooftop terrace, restaurant, heated pool, spa with sauna, tepidarium and hammam, gym, shuttle to city, walking tracks, bicycles, cooking lessons, cigar room, pet friendly.
