Bodrum has no shortage of glamorous hotels, but Bodrum Loft takes a rather different approach. Spread across a pine covered hillside above Demirbükü Bay, it feels less like a resort and more like a beautifully designed Aegean village. This is laid back luxury at its best…barefoot, beautiful and stylish without trying too hard. Opened in 2021, Bodrum Loft was designed by acclaimed Turkish architecture firm Tabanlıoğlu Architects. Its low slung, cubist buildings tumble towards the sea, using stone, wood, shaded terraces and plenty of greenery rather than the marble and general razzmatazz sometimes associated with Bodrum’s newer hotels. Interiors follow suit with dark woods, contemporary art and a minimalist palette that wisely lets the extraordinary Aegean views do most of the decorating. The resort has just 36 accommodation units, including rooms, suites and substantial two, three and four bedroom villas. The mood is wonderfully relaxed. Days revolve around the private pier, impossibly blue water and a choice of pools, while evenings become a little more social over dinner and drinks. The spa deserves a special mention too. I have had more than my fair share of massages in hotels around the world, and the one I had here was genuinely one of the best of my life…which is saying something. Bodrum Loft manages that difficult trick of being very luxurious without ever feeling overly polished or precious.
