Hyatt Madelaine, Paris, France

Hyatt Paris Madeleine

Paris, France

Dream location, fabulous value and Paris. What more could you ask for! The Hyatt Paris Madeleine surprises on every front. So not the American chain hotel you might expect when you hear Hyatt. Built in the 1850’s, this Haussmann building was once a private home. It is now the 2nd smallest Hyatt in the world. Filled with subtle style and minimalist luxury the Madeleine is extremely comfortable and well thought out. The glass roof in the magnificent lobby was created in the workshop of Gustave Eiffel. The tower guy. It tops the heart of the hotel, a fabulous spot for a cocktail… or breakfast. I had a divine omelet. And a Champagne Cocktail. Paris is a city best seen on foot. From this five-story former town house you can walk to pretty much everywhere you want to go. It is steps from the Madeleine; one of my favorite churches in the city. Or stay in. The restaurants are very good, room service is quick. Look for dishes that use honey from their rooftop beehive. The rooms are contemporary; filled with light. Many have stunning views (I could see the Eiffel Tower, yeah that again). And they are surprisingly large for Paris. The suites are not just huge and  with terraces but also great value. If you are in Paris during a lull (i.e. not during fashion week when they are in high demand) you just might get a suite for the same price as a regular room in another 5-star place.

Number of Rooms: 85

Sweet Suite: The presidential suite in which world leaders have actually stayed. But that’s not why you should…you should because it  has a terrace with views of the Eiffel Tower, Sacre-Coeur Basilica and the Opera Garnier. It’s also the best bargain in the city. This huge suite often costs less than junior suites in other 5-star hotels

Favorite Thing: La Chinoiserie Lounge because it is beautiful… the glass roof was designed in the workshop of Gustave Eiffel. It is the heart of the hotel, the perfect place to sit by the fire, sip a cocktail, read a book and nibble a Parisian apero…the savory madeleines are particularly tasty
